Frequently Asked Admissions Questions
Q.
How may I get an application and brochure?
A.
Please see the
Application Process
page of the website for information and copies of applications.
Please call the Admissions Office at 617-738-8695 or email
admissions@brimmer.org
for additional information. We begin conducting tours during the second week of School (in early September) and continue throughout the academic year. An interview is required for students and parents/guardians of applicants. One or both parents or guardians should accompany the student applicant.
Q.
What standardized tests are required?
A.
All applicants for grades 6-8 are required to take the ISEE (Independent Secondary Entrance Exam), and applicants for grades 9-12 are required to take the SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test). While Brimmer and May does not act as a test site for either of these tests, families are welcome to contact us for assistance regarding testing locations.
Evaluations for students applying to Pre-K through grade 5 are scheduled at Brimmer and May in January.
Q.
What happens during the Admissions visit and Interview?
A.
The visit begins with the student and parents(s)/guardians(s) taking a guided tour of the School with a member of the Admissions Office.
Immediately following the campus tour, the student will meet one-on-one with a member of the admissions staff. After the student has been interviewed, the admission officer will meet with the parent(s) or guardians(s).
The interview is an opportunity for the admissions staff to meet the student and learn more about his or her experiences and interests. Likewise, the student and parents have the opportunity to ask questions and to learn more about Brimmer and May.
The tour and interview will take approximately 1 1/4 hours and are required for all applicants.
Q.
Does Brimmer and May offer Financial Aid?
A.
Yes. Brimmer and May has a generous financial assistance budget and makes it a priority to assist an economically diverse community. All aid is based on need, as demonstrated by the financial aid and tax forms the family submits. A committee determines how to apportion the available financial aid funds among the families who apply. About 25% of our students receive some financial aid.
