STEAM Field Trip

STEAM students toured the design firm Continuum.
Students in the STEAM diploma program, along with STEAM director Chris Hardman, Middle and Upper School art teacher Kathryn Lee, engineering teacher Kathy Balles, and AutoCAD and architecture teacher Katya d’Angelo ’04, visited the headquarters of Continuum in Newton. Continuum is a global design and innovation consultancy that works in a variety of STEAM disciplines including digital design, product and experiential design, architecture, engineering, and growth and business strategies.

Taylor Reynolds, a strategist at Continuum who spoke at a STEAM assembly in October, hosted the visit and led the tour along with three of her colleagues—an architect, a business strategist, and a digital designer. They spoke about the design process at Continuum, their ethnographic approach, team collaboration, and the diverse backgrounds of their employees that allow for unique perspectives and solutions. The students were taken through the open-concept work space, project rooms, maker lab and workshop, and saw some of the products Continuum has worked on through the years. The students were very interested to see people working in STEAM fields and how their STEAM education might be put to use in the future.
