Global Studies Program Members Earn Course Certificates

Read about the online course juniors took through the United States Institute for Peace.
Juniors Regina Carey, Sam Marcotte, Elle McDermott, and Owen Meredith enrolled in the Upper School's Introduction to International Relations course took the United States Institute for Peace's (USIP) online course, Conflict Analysis, during the final month of the school year.

The course offers a model and framework for understanding national and international conflict and provides insight about various interventions that may be used to resolve a conflict at each point in its progression. The course uses two real world case studies from the 1990s, Rwanda and Kosovo to apply the model and framework. In addition, to augment their understanding of the Rwandan genocide, the students watched the movie, Hotel Rwanda, which illustrated the historical points presented in the on-line course. The students took the course during their class periods in May and then successfully completed the certificate exam as their final exam for the course.

All four of the students are concentrating in political science in the Global Studies Program. Regina, Elle, and Owen have been active in the program since the beginning of their sophomore years, while Sam joined during this past school year.
